Overnight In-Residence Programs

An overnight residence experience is the most significant program choice at the Bennett Centre. Students will partake in hands on, curriculum-based activities and gain many benefits from their experience, including increased social skills; enhanced team building skills and unique lifelong memories.

Our clean, modern facility is designed to meet the needs for up to two classes (64 people) in hostel style accomodations for students participating in programs of 2-day or 3-day duration. All instruction, equipment, resources, meals, snacks, student booklets, evening programming (if needed) and overnight supervision is provided by the Bennett Centre. We stress a positive learning atmosphere and hands-on teaching methods. View additional information and requirements for overnight in-residence programs.

These programs can be used to meet the objectives of the Junior High ENVOE program, CTS Forests & Wildlife topics and secondary Physical Education- Outdoor Pursuits. The activities listed below can be done in any combination or as part of a program you have created for overnight in-residence:

With Instructor:

  1. Initiative Tasks
    Initiative tasks are designed to promote group cooperation and enjoyment while participating in problem-solving activities that challenge the physical and mental abilities of students. Students will be exposed to new ways of communicating, thinking and problem solving.

  2. Cooperative Games
    A Wide range of opportunities for promoting a co-operative attitude using quiet, noisy, small group, large group, indoor and outdoor settings.

  3. Animal Survival Game
    Animal Survival is an active, outdoor, tag game dealing with nature's predator-prey relationship. This game provides an excellent opportunity for discussion on man's role in habitant destruction and fits well with any level of science study of animal life cycles and environmental concerns. Up to 60 students can play this exciting, informative game.

  4. Orienteering
    Students progress through a series of mapping exercises, beginning with a room map, then a yard map and finishing with a visit to a nearby city park for a more challenging mapping experience.

​Day Programs

These programs can be used to meet the objectives of the Junior High ENVOE program, CTS Forests & Wildlife topics and secondary Physical Education- Outdoor Pursuits. 

Note: All of the programs shown under "Overnight In-Residence Programs" above can be done as a half-day or full-day program with an instructor. 


Without Instructor:

  1. Animal Survival: Half Day (without instructor)
    Animal Survival is an active, outdoor, tag game dealing with nature's predator-prey relationship. This game provides an excellent opportunity for discussion on man's role in habitant destruction and fits well with any level of science study of animal life cycles and environmental concerns. Up to 60 students can play this exciting, informative game.
     
  2. Orienteering: Half Day (without instructor)
    Students progress through a series of mapping exercises, beginning with a room map, then a yard map and finishing with a visit to a nearby city park for a more challenging mapping experience. This program can be done as a full day or in combination with Animal Survival.
