Overview & Facts

Bennett Centre is operated by Edmonton Public Schools as an 'in-city' Environmental Education Centre for the benefit of school students.

The Bennett Centre is located within the picturesque Cloverdale Community and this unique river valley location, three blocks east of the Muttart Conservatory at the foot of Mill Creek Ravine, is situated in the heart of the Capital City parks system. An intermix between the long-standing community, nearby open spaces, natural areas and interconnecting trails along the Park system provides an interesting outdoor setting, and contrasts with a spectacular view of the city skyline rising above the North Saskatchewan River.

This panoramic valley setting provides an 'island' within the middle of Edmonton where students may explore and come to learn more about our ever-changing 'built' and natural environments. Coming into contact with Edmonton's river valley history, riverbank geology or the dramatic season changes in park areas may serve as activity themes for outdoor explorations.

The many environmental connections surrounding Bennett Centre lend themselves to learning through a variety of instructional methods, skill acquisitions and outdoor experiences. In addition to environmental topics, field studies and outdoor pursuits, teachers should also consider the enormous potential for social skill instruction and development.

Our Building

The Bennett Centre has a hostel-like residence facility with separate wings for boys and girls for overnight school groups & retreats. The accommodation capacity is 64 persons with a dormitory-style wing. A dining room with catered food service is available to groups.

The school has 3 classrooms available for field study labs, outdoor preparations, display, AV presentations, meetings & evening residence activities as well as numerous other areas for smaller group gatherings.
